Hey folks. I know some of you have been anticipating the news, although it’s three days old and has been leaked to many media outlets. This past Monday the Slayers and the Lynx faced off to see who would take home the coveted HFHL Cup.
The Lynx were all fired up after a big win agains the Chill and the Slayers were nursing a short bench, missing two of their top D men.
The first period saw the Slayers come out fast and furious as they ran hard and were rewarded with the first four goals of the game. That kind of set things in motion and fight back as they may, the Lynx could never really recover from slow start.
The Lynx tailed twice in the first but the Slayers added one more and held a commanding 5-2 lead after one.
The second saw the teams go even Steven’s as they each notched 3 goals but the Slayers kept that 3 goal lead. 8-5 after the second.
The third saw the Slayers doing a lot of rope a dope behind their net, and although it did not give them cause to win, it did stop the Lynx from getting any momentum by eating precious time on the clock. (New rule to address this coming in the fall)
Both teams tallied twice more and then things started to unravel so the commish stopped the game with little time left just to make sure nothing goofy didn’t go down.
When the final whistle went, the Slayers topped off a great season under team rookie captain Adam Mackenzie, by being crowned the 2024A season champs.
Now a bit of story within the story…
Rob Tyrrell contributed heavily in this game and was awarded third star. Rob has been around longer then the gum under the vanity in the boys washroom…but he isn’t that stale! Great job Rob.
The first star of the game went to Adam Larder, who shook the monkey off his back and grabbed his first championship here in the HFHL.
Adam, missing two key D men, turned aside 36 shits to backstop his team to the win. As a result, Adam has been named this years Playoff MVP and will play for free next season. Awesome job Adam.
I want to take a moment to thank everyone who played this season. I have played my last games in the league but am very appreciative of the fact that I can still be a part.
Running the league is not always easy, but I have two great helpers in Matthew Monk and Rob Tyrrell. Without their commitments this league would not be happening. So hats off to you both.
Well, that’s all I have. Another season in the books…and 2024 B is coming in the fall.
