Being one of the bigger market franchises in the ADC FHL, the Lite-Sabres have historically had the financial freedom to sign some of the league's higher priced talent. At no time was this more evident than at the 2003B Draft.
At the conclusion of the draft, Sabres captain Chris McMaster announced to stunned media personnel that he had come to terms with previously retired players Rob Romaine and Matt Monk. Romaine had tallied 70 career points in his three previous seasons in the league, but it was his grittiness that McMaster was most interested in. "With the departure of Blair (Scanlan), I needed someone to fill the role of team goon," explained McMaster, "Rob will certainly fill that void."
While Romaine will be expected to add some scoring punch, Monk will be asked to bolster the Sabres' defense. With Mike Sullivan the only other natural defenseman on the Sabres squad, Monk will expect to get lots of floor time, especially considering the team has one less player than last season.
Monk will be hoping to win his second championship -- he was a key component of the LAN Hackers 2001B title run.
