Slayers Silence Naysayers - 12/3/1999 4:49:37 PM

Just when you thought the Sunnydale Slayers would go the entire season without winning a game, they pull one out of the fire. The Keane Fire that is. The Slayers topped the Keane Fire 13-11 last Thursday to finish the season in second place overall despite going the entire regular season without a victory.

Key to the Slayers victory was the emergence of journeyman forward Tim Sawlor. Sawlor broke personal records with his 5 goals and 2 assists outburst. Tim two, Tim Farrell, was his usual high-scoring self, chipping in a mere 7 goals and assisting on 2 others.

The unsung hero award for the game has to go to bruising Slayer defenseman George Publicover. Publicover was a physical force to be reckoned with in Thursday's game, and by the time the third period rolled around, the effects of the punishment was evident on the faces of Keane Fire players. Publicover was less than pleased with the fact that they had to play without a sub. "I don't do that much running in the Labatt 24-hour relay" commented Publicover after the game, "and there's no free beer tonight darn it!"
