Week 5 recap - Mar 13, 2025

Hey there boys and girls and ladies and gents!
This is Billy Concarney here with a quick glimpse of how things went this past Monday.
First of all, thanks for everyone’s patience as I navigated through some challenges days. It was greatly appreciated and I was thankful for the support of you all.

Now let’s get at it

March break Mondays are tough at times with families taking irresponsible players away from their teams and leaving them helpless like a fish on the banks of the Saint John River…
This past Monday saw some players missing as a result of this shift in priorities
One such team was the Lynx…who had to pick up 3 players to get their game done.

They faced off against the Chill who were missing Alex MacLeod. The Lynx were missing team captain Samuel “Jackson” Whidden and Stu “ for supper” Whidden, and it showed. The Chill dominated from the opening face off and despite the valiant efforts of the two regulars and the pick ups, the Lynx got steam rolled and lost this one 8-1. Dylan Warren, one shot away from a shut out…but a great game played by the Chill over all.

The 8:00 game saw the Sabres meeting up with the Fire. These teams were pretty evenly matched but the Fire were under staffed tonight and it showed. Although the Fire held a 3-2 lead after the 1st, and kept that one goal lead heading into the 3rd as both teams traded goals in 2nd, it was the third period that saw the Sabres take control of the short benched Fire.
Craig Burgoyne turned in a great 3 rd period performance, but the Sabres managed to sneak 3 by him and added an empty netter to get the win by a score of 8-6

Well….last game of the night…all I’m going to say is welcome to the Justin MacKinnon Show! What a night this guy had. The Slayers stepped against the Hackers. MacKinnon opened the scoring in the 1st…and had the Slayers first 4 goals of the game. But eh wasn’t done there. The Hackers were doing their best to keep pace, grabbing two of their own and going to the second down by a score of 4-2.
The Hackers got within one when Aidan Walsh ripped a slapper from Myles Raymond…but Justin picked up his 5th goal and after the Hackers added another and the Slayers added two more, the Slayers had a commanding lead of 8-4 going to the 3rd.
The 3rd saw the Slayers dominate and they added 4 more goals to the Hackers one. When the final whistle blew, the Slayers ended up winning 12-5, and Justin Mackinnon ended up with 7 goals and 3 assists…that’s why he is this weeks Tim Hortons HFHL player of the Week!
Way to go Justin.

Well that’s all I have this week.

A little side note, the penalties are waaayyyy down so far this season, but I’m still going to challenge everyone to stay in control of your sticks. If you don’t have a real play on the ball, don’t chop at it. Some of you will call it “hockey”, and I get it, but I will maybe call it a slash, you just never know. Also, interference on the bench…intentionally done should result in a penalty. Just a note to the wise.

Have a great rest of the week.
Be well

This is Billy Concarney saying so long fir now!
