Lynx Bear Teeth on Draft Day - 9/18/2000 9:47:52 PM

When Chris Bleichert took over the captaincy of the expansion ADC Lynx, he vowed two things: 1) to draft the best talent possible and 2) to do it sober. Well, one out of two ain't bad.

Bleichert struck gold on draft day, with several marquee acquisistions. The most notable veteran draft choice was that of 2nd-year pro Chad Barron. Barron had a solid rookie season in 2000A with his highlight being the game-winning shootout goal against the Sunnydale Slayers in the semi-finals. Other veteran talent drafted by Bleichert was defenseman Barrie Harvey, who was wrested away from the Lite-Sabres, and Scott Ferguson, who was plucked from the Slayers.

Possibly most encouraging for Lynx fans may be their selection of 5 highly touted rookies. Taking no chance with goaltending, Bleichert drafted rookie back-up backstops Kathleen MacDonald and Dave Proctor. This was in addition to potentital superstars Jay Allison, Blaise MacPhee and Jason Powell.

When asked about his broken promise of draft-day sobriety, Bleichert replied "I only started drinking during the draft. I didn't start feeling drunk until about 1:30"
