Can the Fire repeat? - 10/22/2006 9:16:52 PM

Keane Fire (3-1-1 27GF 32GA)

The Keane Fire are in second place. The Keane Fire are the defending league champions. The Keane Fire are -5 in +/-. This officially makes the Fire the biggest mystery in the league. Why?

1) How the heck do you end up in second place when you've scored fewer goals than have been scored against you?

2) Who told the Fire they weren't the league's perennial whipping boy anymore? When did this happen and why wasn't I paying attention?!

I'm not entirely sure how or why, but suddenly the Fire are one of the best teams in the league. While the entire hockey world is scratching it's collective head, this much is known: the key to the Fire is Gill Mombourquette. The team is almost too reliant on him for offense (At the time of this writing, Mombourquette's sixteen points have him fourth in league scoring. The second highest scoring member of the Fire is Shawn Currie, twenty-third in the league).

Shut Gill down, and Harvey better be having himself a REAL good night.
