Lynx Rookies Make Their Mark - 10/20/2003 10:14:47 PM

Lynx rookie Mark Leblanc shot his way into the record book Monday night, scoring 13 goals and adding 3 assists for 16 points as the Lynx crushed the Fire 21-3. The 13 goals are the most ever scored at the Needham Centre. The League record 15 goals scored by Shawn Currie, as well as a 13-goal game by Steve Chaisson and another 13-goal effort by Currie, all took place in 2000B at the YMCA, where the building is smaller and the nets were larger. Fellow rookies Josh Blades and his brother Matt counted 7 assists between them in the contest.

Lynx captain Richard Wanamaker was quick to take credit for drafting the 3 players in the first round. “Not to sound smug, but I had my eye on them all during pre-season”, Wanamaker said smugly after the game. But some minimal research by Customstas.com has revealed that Leblanc and Matt Blades were convinced to join the League only after being assured by Josh Blades that they would all be drafted by the same team. A source close to the Blades brothers insists that Josh Blades negotiated with several teams for a package deal which would include the draft rights to both his brother and Leblanc. The reason for choosing the Lynx? “They really like the yellow uniforms”, the source said.
