Rankin to Fans: "Don't be a Slaya' Hater!" - 10/2/2000 7:49:58 PM

Slayers captain and goaltender Peter Rankin knew he had big shoes to fill this season when he took over from Paul Chui. As the only team never to make the finals in the league's 3 previous year's, Rankin knew the Slayers had to get off to a good start in order to keep both the press, and the fans off his back.

No such luck.

At 0-2, the Slayers are co-habitants of the FHL's cellar with the Keane Chill. Roster problems have plagued the Slayers through two games this season. Both Royal brothers missed the season opener, and further maladies have forced Rankin to call up little known forward Cory MacLellan from the Mount Uniacke tier 7 league. Fortunately for Rankin and the Slayers, MacLellan came through with 4 goals in his debut, as the Slayers lost to the Keane Fire 18-16.
